It was forty years ago this month...
Hard to believe but it's true. Forty years since Neil and Buzz tromped around up there on ol' Luna, while Mike Collins circled overhead, their ticket home and the only ride going their way for a quarter of a million miles.
The moon has been much on my mind this year--and through my reminiscences of the long hours I spent with the astronauts on that dirty, grey ball, I've also revisited a childhood I thought I'd left far behind.
A one-hour long radio play wasn't enough--Sherron and I wanted to try out some of the bells and whistles on this iMac and, in so doing, we put together a short tribute to the 40th anniversary of Apollo 11. We'll be adding it to my blog in mid-July. You'll find out all you need to know here.
And, hey, when the 20th rolls around, pop outside and raise a glass to the moon.
Wasn't so long ago we were there. Won't be too long now and we'll be going back...

Susan Brown says:
I hadn't thought about that
I hadn't thought about that in years. I remember Dad dragging us all out of bed to watch the moon landing on our relatively new tv, telling us that it was important and we would one day be glad we got out of bed to see it. Susan
Cliff J. Burns says:
And in my case...
...I think the moon landing provoked little except indifference in our house. But I can trace my beginnings as a writer to that day, the sensawunda imparted by the science fiction like notion of men walk-hopping about on the surface of the moon. Mars HAD to be next and then the rest of the planets. July, 1969, we left the nest. Unfortunately, since the early 70's we've lost our vision and direction and scrambled back to close-orbit safety.
Good to hear from ya, Susan...
