Guiding Light Project: Ladies and Gentlemen, the B-52's!
When I announced the Guiding Light Project two weeks ago, I had no idea the response I was going to get. Sure, I knew people would be excited about it, but it has caught on like wildfire. Roger Newcomb has mentioned the project several times in his blog We Love Soaps. Patrick Erwin gave me a shout out on his other blog. Robert Reid on Blog Talk Radio interviewed Lynn Liccardo and me about the project and about soaps in general. Harley Jane Kozak was also on the show, and her taking time out of her busy schedule means more to me than I can say. My friend Maria Trivisano called in, which was a delight. Another blogger who called in was Dani, who with her partner Liz does a podcast/blog dedicated to Olivia and Natalia called Pancakes and Valium where they have mentioned the project as well. I also discovered I've gotten emails from people thanking me for doing this.
The thing is I should be thanking you! I am just amazed by how people are responding to this, and it warms my heart so much. I told my father about the project and I expected him to be a curmudgeon about it-he makes fun of my mother watching Young and Restless. Instead he said, "You're helping people with this project. This past year things that we took for granted, newspapers, the car industry are fading fast. With this show being canceled, you're helping them express themselves in how they feel, and they are learning more about the show as you go on."
So Gentle Readers, here's a treat for you. You're going to be treated to a concert. The act? The B-52's!
As I wrote last week about Judy Collins, in 1982 the happening place in Springfield was Wired For Sound, a disco where all the latest musical acts would come perform. One week, the B-52's came.
Now you might be thinking, um Jennifer, come on. The B-52's were on a soap opera? You bet your boots they were. I had to show Huntington the video of them on You Tube. Be prepared to see some serious rocking out.
