Haiku is an important form of traditional Japanese poetry. The English language format of haiku today is a symmetrical 17 syllable verse consisting of three lines with 5, 7, and 5 syllables respectively. Although rooted in seasonal nature images, modern haiku treat with an unrestricted range of contemporary subjects.
