Jealousy II

                                                        for KVL

Jealousy is frozen water

Black-ice glare,

reflecting a mottled twin, vague

Unexpected call between

theater and a late dinner

mention of a man insubstantial as shadow

but deflecting my questions

admonishing me

not too call again too late

The call has two faces

like the handset of the phone:

ruddy sun of love

thrills and glitter of a stellar

social night or cold-eyed

fat-man selling insurance

Against the inopportune.

The dinner in question

two blocks from your home

with a man from “five miles North”.

Heads, he travels all that way

for dinner with a Queen; tails,

joins you in a bed guarded by a phone

Whose throat has been cut.

Suspicion is a mirror set

in a crystal hall. One motion

moves in every direction.

“Sex is a conversation” she sd

and you’re a great talker-.

said you could fuck

“15 times a day”- so why,

deny yourself a fleshy chat and lube?

It’s all heat where you live

melting candles and steam trapped

in scalding iron. On the longest day

hair tossed by languid winds

you walk on ice. Looking down

your feet are on my face peering up,

beneath the glassy floor,

gasping for unavailable air.
