Reflections on a Master of War
Web Links

During Robert S. Mcnamara’s most powerful and destructive days, I remember observing that -- after creating all his horror and mayhem -- LBJ’s Secretary of Defense, the “architect of the Vietnam War” would die in bed, a grim reminder of the blind universe in which we live.
McNamara died peacefully, in his sleep, on July 6, 2009.
The only justice was th McNamara’s “peaceful” death was eclipsed by a celebration of Michael Jackson’s life, an artist who lit that same blind universe.
I avoided the obits in The New York Times, etc. Instead, I revisited a review written in 1995 after Random House published McNamara's memoirs, In Retrospect, a sloppy, myopic, sentimental, and limited reflection on his life and... McNamara's War.
I offer this review as my obituary for the Master of War.
Peace,
Charlie Degelman
