Truth Which Lies

Issue/Publication: Drumvoices Revue

            And so it was,
Civilization’s father was not Greek.
Guess where Pythagoras learned geometry?
Guess where Thales discerned astronomy?
Post-Socratics transcribed known philosophy
and claimed it as their own

             And so it was,
Claimed that poor Meropius, lost at sea,
Stumbled upon sin, brought Christianity.
Mark first brought the gospel to Egypt's knee.
A nation’s past later stole a legacy
and claimed it as their own.

             And so it was,
Natives were killed off intentionally,
By gunpowder, fire and blanketed disease,
After teaching settlers democracy.
The griots of genocide wrote history
and claimed it as their own.

                And so it was,
The white-centric story of history:
Invalid, inaccurate, and incomplete,
Miseducation of humanity.
Conquerors truly decide which truth, which lies
                             memories we will keep

A great way to interrogate

A great way to interrogate history, politics, & culture. I enjoyed reading this uncompromising piece.

Charles Matheson says:

Pure Reality

As true as the flight of an arrow shot from a native bow.

Uncompromising clarity.....I love it
