Alexandra Sokoloff

Biography

I'm a California native and a graduate of U.C. Berkeley, where I majored in theater and minored in everything that Berkeley has a reputation for.

After college I moved to Los Angeles, where I have made an interesting living doing novel adaptations and selling original suspense and horror scripts to various Hollywood studios, and have had one film made so far: an adaptation of German novelist Sabine Deitmer's thriller, COLD KISSES.

My first novel, THE HARROWING, a ghost story, was nominated for an Anthony and a Bram Stoker Award for Best First Novel last year. The story is based on real incidents from my high school and college years and grew out of my fascination with the correlation between mental/emotional illness and paranormal events.

My second book, THE PRICE, a supernatural thriller, set in a Boston hospital, was called "some of the most original and freshly unnerving work in the genre" by the New York Times Book review.

My new supernatural thriller, THE UNSEEN, is just out from St. Martin's Press, and is based on the real-life ESP experiments conducted by Dr. J.B. Rhine at the Duke University parapsychology lab.

I recently served on the Board of Directors of the Writers Guild of America, west; I'm currently serving on the Board of Directors of Mystery Writers of America.  I'm also the founder of WriterAction.com, a large and unruly cyber-community of over 2000 professional screenwriters.

Next to writing I love dance more than breathing: jazz, ballet, salsa, Lindy, swing - I do it all, every chance I get.http://alexandrasokoloff.com/
