Biography

Barbara Berman organized one of the first independent book festivals, in 1979, in Washington, D. C. Her poetry and prose have appeared in The Village Voice, Outlook and Style of The Washington Post, The Washingtonian, The San Francisco Examiner, The San Francisco Chronicle, OFFCOURSE, Lilith, Gargoyle, Poetica, The Haight-Ashbury Literary Journal, 100 Poets Against the War, We Begin Here--Poems for Palestine and Lebanon, and a number of other publications.

She served for ten years as an active member of the Board of Directors of Friends of the San Francisco Public Library, and is completing her eighth year as a member of the jury of the California Book Awards of the Commonwealth Club.

She regularly reviews poetry for The San Francisco Chronicle and her chapbook, THE GENEROSITY OF STARS is now available from finishinglinepress.com.
