Daphne Gottlieb

Biography San Francisco-based poet Daphne Gottlieb stitches together the ivory tower and the gutter just using her tongue. She is the author of four books of poetry: Kissing Dead Girls (2008), Final Girl (2003), Why Things Burn (2001) and Pelt (1999). She is also the editor of Fucking Daphne: Mostly True Stories and Fictions (2008), Homewrecker: An Adultery Reader (2005) and the author of Jokes and the Unconscious, a graphic novel with illustrator Diane DiMassa. She was the winner of the 2003 Audre Lorde Award for Poetry and a 2001 Firecracker Alternative Book Award. She has two books coming out in March 08: Fucking Daphne: Mostly True Stories and Fictions, and Kissing Dead Girls. Her work has most recently been anthologized in two Seal Press anthologies: Women Writing on Desire and Word Warriors: 35 Woman Leaders in the Spoken Word Revolution. She teaches creative writing at New College of California, and supports her writing and teaching with a day job.
