Jack Boulware

Biography

Jack Boulware is an author and journalist, and writes regularly for a variety of publications. He is the author of two nonfiction social history books, Sex American Style and San Francisco Bizarro, and has contributed to several anthologies. His newest book, Gimme Something Better: The Profound, Progressive, and Occasionally Pointless History of Bay Area Punk From Dead Kennedys to Green Day, will be published by Penguin in 2009.

He has traveled widely to write about subjects conventional and outré, from sumo wrestling and CD piracy to unexploded ordnance, import car racing, gambling, boxing, bullfighting, rodeo clowns, jazz expatriates, glacier climbing, cricket fighting, bartending, literary hoaxes, treasure hunters, fighting monsters, fighting robots, pornography, blood-drinking, satanism, cigar smuggling, big-wave surfing, ice golfing, pig hunting, redwood activism, Beatles fanatics, and the church of John Coltrane.

He is co-founder of the Bay Area's annual Litquake literary festival. And he is proud to contribute to the canon of literature authored by Boulwares, which includes Poems for all Occasions, The Oratory of Negro Leaders: 1900-1968, The Truth About Boulwarism: Trying to Do Right Voluntarily, and Snoring: New Answers to an Old Problem.
