Kevin Avery

Biography

Kevin Avery was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. He has published over 300 articles and short stories. His fiction has been published in Mississippi Review, Weber Studies, Utah Holiday, and California Quarterly; his nonfiction has appeared in publications as diverse as Penthouse, Salt Lake magazine, CitySearch, and Gallery, where he served as contributing editor for seven years.

In 2005, he moved to New York to be with Deborah, the love of his life, whom he married the following year. Pursuing his writing career, he sold Four Roses, a screenplay based on one of his previously published short stories; his book Everything Is an Afterthought, an anthology/biography collecting the work, and recounting the life, of the critic Paul Nelson, will be published by Feral House in 2009. In researching the book, Kevin has interviewed more than eighty of Nelson's friends, family, and colleagues, as well as several of the artists about whose work he wrote and championed (including Bruce Springsteen, Jackson Browne, Elliott Murphy, Freedy Johnston, David Forman, Steve Forbert, Tom Pacheco, and Mike Seeger).

Other works in progress include a novel and a short story collection.

Kevin is past president of Writers at Work, one of the United States' largest annual writing conferences, and formerly vice president of a $200 million Western regional trucking company. In both positions, he played an integral part in developing advertising and garnering publicity.

In 2006, he launched an independent public relations firm, Mere Words Media Relations, providing a full array of affordable publicity services with the artist in mind.
