A.S. King

Biography

A.S. King was born in Berks County, Pennsylvania. After earning a degree in photography from The Art Institute of Philadelphia, she moved to Dublin, Ireland where she swore off television and started writing novels. Two years later, she moved to rural Tipperary and became self-sufficient. There, she divided her time between writing, teaching literacy, breeding rare poultry, and finding exciting ways to feed herself. In 2004, she moved back to the US with her husband and children.

 

Her work has appeared in FRiGG, Contrary, Literary Mama, Quality Women's Fiction, The Huffington Post, Washington Square, Word Riot, Amarillo Bay, Natural Bridge, Eclectica, Underground Voices, iVillage and (on) Lit103.3 and other cool places. Her story, "Monica Never Shuts Up" has been nominated for Best New American Voices 2010. Her first young adult novel, The Dust of 100 Dogs, was published by Flux in 2009 and was an Indie Next List Pick for Teens and was nominated for YALSA's Best Books for Young Adults list. Her next book, PLEASE IGNORE VERA DIETZ is coming from KnopfYoung Readers (14+) in Fall 2010.

 

Her agent continues to shop her literary books MONICA NEVER SHUTS UP and WHY PEOPLE TAKE PICTURES, in spite of the fact that she wrote them with her middle finger extended.
