Ray A. March

Biography Ray A. March was educated at San Francisco State where he earned a degree in English Literature/Humanities. As a lifelong journalist he has worked on newspapers in Europe and the U.S., including stints at the now defunct Los Angeles Herald Examiner and his hometown weekly The Carmel Pine Cone, where he was editor until he was fired for muckraking. His articles and essays have appeared in Time, The New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle and elsewhere. He is co-director of the Surprise Valley Writers’ Conference and editor of the Modoc Independent News, a monthly newspaper co-owned with his wife Barbara. March’s books include “Alabama Bound: Forty-Five Years Inside A Prison System.” He is a former National Book Award nominee.
