Sharon Bray

Biography Author of three books (a children's book was her first, now out of print), poetry, memoir and a number of professional articles, Sharon has focused, in recent years, on the power of writing to heal.  Her professional work has been described in her two most recent books,  A Healing Journey:  Writing Together Through Breast Cancer  (Amherst Writers & Artists Press, 2004) and When Words Heal:  Writing Through Cancer (North Atlantic Books/Frog Ltd., 2006).   Most recently, she co-edited an anthology of cancer patients’ writing, Learning to Live Again, with Pat Fobair, LCSW, published by the Stanford University School of Medicine in 2007.   Formerly an adjunct faculty member at Santa Clara University and  writing instructor for DeAnza-Foothill College & Palo Alto Adult School, she now teaches for is the  UCLA Extension Writers’ Program and  offers professional development courses in therapeutic writing at Alliant International University and the Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley.  Sharon holds a doctorate in Applied Psychology from the University of Toronto, studied Transformative Language Arts at Goddard College and creative writing through Humber School for Writers in Toronto and the Writers’ Program at the University of Washington.   She is a member of the Society for Arts in Healthcare, the American Psychological Association, The Transformative Language Arts Network, the National Association of Poetry Therapy, and a Senior Fellow of the American Leadership Forum.  She's now  at work on the novel that has been dogging her for years...
