Biography

Poet Susan Meyers, of Summerville, SC, is the author of Keep and Give Away, selected by Terrance Hayes for the inaugural South Carolina Poetry Book Prize and published in 2006 by the University of South Carolina Press. It also received the SIBA Book Award for Poetry from the Southern Independent Booksellers Alliance and the Brockman-Campbell Book Award from the North Carolina Poetry Society. Her chapbook Lessons in Leaving (Persephone Press, 1998) was selected by Brendan Galvin for the Persephone Press Book Award. Other honors and awards include a Poet-in-Residence at the Gibbes Museum of Art in Charleston, SC; a poetry fellowship from the SC Academy of Authors; Yemassee's Pocataligo Poetry Prize; South Carolina Review's Poetry Contest; and Crucible's Sam Ragan Prize.

Individual poems by Meyers have appeared in numerous literary journals: American Poetry Journal, Asheville Poetry Review, Crazyhorse, Ekphrasis, The Greensboro Review, North Carolina Literary Review, The Southern Review, Tar River Poetry, and elsewhere. Her work has also appeared on Poetry Daily and Verse Daily.

A long-time writing instructor, Meyers teaches classes and workshops in community programs in the Charleston/Pawleys Island, SC, area.
