On Friday nights the entire museum is open until 8:45 p.m. Friday Nights at the de Young offers a variety of interdisciplinary arts programs, including live music, poetry, films, dance, tours, and lectures. The cafe is open with a special Friday Nights dinner menu, and a no-host cocktail bar is serving drinks. There are art-making activities for everyone.

6:15–7:00 p.m.
Live Music: The Dee Spencer Septet. Famed San Francisco piano colossus Dee Spencer will present her NeoVintage Septet, putting a big-band spin on her special brand of jazz and bebop. Dianthe “Dee” Spencer is a professor of music at San Francisco State University and founder of the school’s jazz studies department. Her performance credits read like a history of jazz and rock, featuring stints with former Tower of Power vocalist Lenny Williams and Aretha Franklin's favorite drummer Bernard "Pretty" Perdie.
7:00–7:30 p.m.
Wordsongs by devorah major, spoken-word performer and former Poet Laureate of San Francisco, featuring Richard Howell on saxophone.
7:45–8:30 p.m.
Live Music: Featuring The Dee Spencer Septet
Art Activity for Everyone
