Pauline Rowson British Crime Writer of the contemporary marine mystery series of crime novels

Murder Mystery Play To be Premiered In Liverpool

A murder mystery play with a new slant, written by International crime writer, Pauline Rowson, whose novels include Tide of Death and In Cold Daylight, is to be premiered in Liverpool on 19 November.

Produced by Hall Lake Productions, the brand new detective play Murder at The Pelican Club, is a 1940s murder mystery in the vein of the classic crime thrillers of the 20th century. It can be compared to a "Poirot"-style detective drama and features a gruff, middle-aged detective called Doyle. Professionally produced, Murder at The Pelican Club is to be performed by professional actors in the critically acclaimed Haymarket restaurant rather than in the traditional theatre.

Pauline Rowson, author of the thriller In Cold Daylight, which was shortlisted for the World Book Day Prize 2008, also writes the popular marine mystery series of crime novels featuring the flawed but rugged detective DI Horton. Tide of Death was chosen by Amazon as one of the Best Crime Fiction Reads of 2006. Rowson’s books are sold worldwide and have been translated into several languages.

Rehearsals are currently underway with the seven-strong cast and director. Murder At The Pelican Club is to be premiered at The Haymarket restaurant in Liverpool on 19 November and will run every Wednesday. The Play is in four acts which are performed between courses of a two-course gourmet meal and the audience get the chance to guess ‘who done it?’

Pauline Rowson says, ‘I loved writing this play as a departure from a novel and am keen to do more. What attracted me to this commission was the opportunity to produce a professional play in the traditional style, but with the added challenge of it fitting into a venue other than the traditional theatre. It will be really exciting to see the characters come to life and I look forward to attending the premiere.’

Producer David Hallangen-Lake, says, ‘We were really impressed with Pauline’s ideas and her style of writing is exactly what we were looking for. We’re hoping to build on the success of this and perform more plays featuring Doyle and other characters in the future.’

Tickets for Murder at the Pelican Club with a two-course gourmet dinner and glass of wine at The Haymarket Restaurant, Victoria Street, Liverpool cost £35. Telephone 0151 255 0588 for bookings.
