NaNoWriMo 2008

  • NaNoWriMo 2008 status: Complete!

    December 1, 2008

    • I have known about NaNoWriMo for 3 years now, but between working at a start-up company and other life concerns, it had never seemed something even remotely within my grasp. But this year, everything was different. I was a consultant now, not a full-time employee doing three jobs at once. I was in a stable environment both financially and emotionally which allowed me to devote energy to personal ...
  • I'm a NaNoWriMo winner!

    November 30, 2008

    • Wow.  Okay, so I won NaNoWriMo two days early having started ten days late on my first ever attempt.  I'm so proud of myself!  My book definitely needs work, but that can come in December.  There really is nothing like a deadline to make you type fifty thousand words in eighteen days!  I didn't even do that much at university...

    November 30, 2008

    • I've finally finished.  The journey was rough but it was worth it.  I have a piece that is longer than five pages and now I have the faith to complete what I start without worrying about the small things. I will write another blog entry about NaNoWriMo 2008 in a bit.  Right now, I just want to get my submission in.  For now, good night.  I need sleep...  November was a long month.
  • My Writing Adventure in 100 words or less, I hope

    November 30, 2008

    • So I tried NaNoWriMo again this year. I only got 500 words in last year and I didn't think I had it in me to write something so long. I have tons of short stories but I really want to novel write and so I tried again this year. Well even with all of the distractions and being sick I did it. I have written 50,000 words, and you know what... my novel is still not done! Well l guess that means more ...
  • Things I Lost During Nano...

    November 30, 2008

    • 1) The use of my right wrist -- I am wearing an ugly black wrist guard as I type this. I just might bedazzle it to celebrate my victory! 2) My hair! I was forced to cut it all off after it formed a massive dreadlock so tangled that even Wonder Woman's lasso of truth would have failed to get the naps out. I got nothing against natty dreads, but one EXTRA LARGE Mr. Hanky-shaped worm hanging off my ...
  • NaNoWriMo 2008

    November 30, 2008

    • This was the first time I did NaNoWriMo and I was thrilled to actually complete it. Today I wrote 5,000 words. Yesterday I wrote 6,000. Altogether since Tuesday morning, I wrote 22,000 words. I'm tired!
  • I did it!

    November 30, 2008

    • I have  completed NaNoWriMo 2008.... and am a winner. I stopped just over 50k words, at an ending... but it is not the ending... as it turned out I kept writing even after submitting my winning text. It was a journey I'm glad I took, since I haven't written fiction in almost 12 years--and it turns out I did miss it.  At my worst, I was 6.61 days behind target for finishing on time... but since ...

  • NaNoWriMo 2009 Coming For YOU Next YEAR!

    November 30, 2008

    • Needless to say I did not reach my 50,000 word requirement to win...awww shucks!  However I did begin to see my writing self emerge. That's got to be worth something...atleast the price of admission.I will be ready next year. All the tips, tools and resources were abundant.  I was a bit overwhelmed. Like getting my first job on a crusie liner and it turns out to be the Titanic. Yeah, I was ...
  • I'm a novelist!

    November 30, 2008

    • During Lent, you have to give up one thing for a month.  During NaNoWriMo, you have to give up pretty much everything!  I have not written fiction since fourth grade, yet I decided I could write a novel in 30 days.  The challenge seemed absurd yet fun.  Besides, what else was I going to do in November?  Sit at home fretting every night that I did not receive an acceptance letter for graduate ...
