- I recently attended a Yoga retreat and took two classes from Rodney and Colleen Yee, one focusing on balance and the other ended with a quote by Picasso on the benefit of reserves. Well, I can read a balance sheet like the best of them, find the elegant columns that if managed well (at least for a non-profit) balance each other out. I have espoused the benefit of having reserves, a rainy day ...

- Summer is almost over because the boys return to school next week. I am torn between feeling a huge sense of relief that is strangely mixed with a certain sense of nostalgia. The end of Summer always does this to me though. Somehow saying goodbye to this season feels like a letting go of freedom, a trek into the unknown, a time to pull up your socks and get down to the grind once more. I ...

- Ooh, after the week I've had with babysitter woes, I have really been looking forward to my Friday post where I get to let my hair down, sit back, and ponder the inane, quirky habits of that ecelectic species, writer. This week's spotlight gelled for me in a dream last night. - CBeditions, the publisher of my new Ponge translation, says Ponge outsold every other book on his table at a London book fair for small publishers. See sonafabook where there's a link to a place that also says nice things about the translation. Meanwhile, back in Paris. Calculating that every sensible person would be at home having dinner on a dark (we switched to winter time on Saturday) ...

- Back in Paris, after a week in the Vaucluse. We go to the Musee d'Orsay to see one of 3 current Picasso exhibits (the other 2 are at the Louvre and at the Grand Palais--that's the big one, with the killer lines). The Orsay exhibit is about Picasso's fascination with Manet's "Dejeuner sur l'herbe." Sometime in the 1930's Picasso jotted on the back of an envelope: "Quand je vois le dejeuner sur ...
