  • Bookcrossing readathon, and a new book...

    November 2, 2009

    • Well, the bookcrossing readathon is on!  Despite working for the last three days, I have managed to put in about six hours of the twenty-four desired.  Whether or not I manage the twenty-four hours is immaterial; it's the thrill of the chase, in a sense.  In this quest I have finished Ender's Shadow.  I have also read some manuscripts or portions there of. I have lots of reading choices right ...
  • bookcrossing,..RABCK and beyond

    October 18, 2009

    • As I have mentioned in previous blogs, I bookcross!  For those not familiar with the concept, bookcrossing.com is a place where readers register books and release them into the "wild" or via controlled releases.  If found, they can be catalogued, too.Recently, I have started a RABCK, which is a controlled release situation where those bookcrossers that may be interested  can sign up ...
  • books and talk...

    September 29, 2009

    • Okay, lots of little things going on.  Mostly books, though, as I remain a reader.  I just finished another book, The Winds of Fall, a science-fiction fantasy romance.  Science fiction combined with romance makes for a different read for me because science fiction is not my favorite genre. Having said that, there was quite a bit of action, travel, and extra-terrestrials in this one as well as ...
  • Pedometer geek and books, books, and more books..

    July 3, 2009

    • Fearing that I wouldn't have any more library books to read, I stopped at the library on the way home from our daily walk to the post office.  Weather permitting, my husband and I usually walk to the post office and other various places around town.  It makes the pedometer geek in me happy for one thing.  I know that I will finish up Love in the Present Tense today;  it is a compelling story ...
  • Resistance to change...

    June 19, 2009

    • I just finished Resistance by Anita Shreve.  After a rather slow start, it was a sad, poignant love story set during World War II. The Belgium Resistance movement was the backdrop for the novel.  An American aviator who crashes his fighter is protected in a small village from the Gestapo by a man and his wife.  As might be expected, there is an element of betrayal in store for those Resistance ...
  • bookcrossing,..what a release

    June 11, 2009

    • Well, I finished Little Face by Sophie Hannah.  What a suspenseful novel, especially for a debut author!  Hannah had me all the way.  She deftly wove her story in such a way as to lure me in.  While I figured out much of it, there were still surprises along the way.  It's a really good read about the darker side of families and the love of a mother for her child.  It was so good, in fact, ...
  • bookcrossing...the next chapter

    June 9, 2009

    • So far, since joining bookcrossing.com, I have only released books, but I finally "caught" one.  Okay, it was a controlled release by a fellow bookcrosser who was celebrating her birthday by giving away some of her books (3 lucky recipients from the USA, 1 from outside the US).  She said it has become an annual event for her...to give "gifts" to other bookcrossers.  What a ...
  • Do reviews help...ie, sell books? Or another reason for bookcrossing

    May 19, 2009

    • I am the first to admit that I am more of a reader than a writer.  I read  much more than I write, but having had one outside review (Midwest Book Review), I haven't seen even a blip of a sale.  No matter, I really don't expect to sell many books since the genre of haiku is pretty limited; however, I have seen other (outside) reviews for other books (really good books) that I like and the same ...
  • bookcrossing...III

    April 21, 2009

    • I am so excited.  I just received an email alert from Bookcrossing.com.  One of my "babies" has been caught and journaled.  Not only that, but the anonymous person who found it plans on passing it on as he knew he didn't have time to read it (this is the time for finals for many students).  Actually, for an anonymous journaller, this person was quite extensive in his journal ...
  • Bookcrossing...part deux

    April 16, 2009

    • An earlier blog post, I mentioned bookcrossing.  For those of you unaware of the concept, people all across the world leave books for others to find, read, possibly journal on a website set up for that, and then pass on to others.  By going to the site, you can follow the books you've released, at least theoretically.I've just started a few months ago, and mostly, I have done controlled ...
