- American superheroes who wear masks do not generally have eyes. They just have a white space where their eyes are. But why? When I was younger, I did not question this. Batman, Wolverine, Spiderman; they just did not have eyes. That was how it was. I didn't read any of those comics, though. I read a black & white comic which was quite popular in Australia, The Phantom.Briefly, The Phantom is ...

- After a way-too-long pause from drawing the Sixsmiths, I drew this page yesterday for the webcomic. Scripter Jason has been busy too, writing a prose novella which kept his away from this comic for about a month, too. I am really happy with how it came out. It took me a little while to get the hang of drawing these characters again after the break. The figures in panels 2-4 took a lot longer to ...

- I haven't blogged about The Sixsmiths recently because I have had to find a new job, and that entailed moving as well. However, in the midst of that, I drew a 4-page comic for the Australian romance comics anthology, Tango. Tango was the place my first comic was published, 9 years ago. It's a romance comic, so all the stories are about love. Last year's theme was 'love and food', his years ...

- I started out as a comic artist/writer and illustrator. A lot of times when you are working, you think, "This is the funniest damn thing in the world. I don't need to write it down because I'll remember it forever." And then, a little while down the road, you flip through some of your work and wonder, "What the hell was I thinking?" These are some comics that I drew and ...

- When I was 6, we moved to Maine from Guam, in November of that year. It was 1973 and the nation's whitest state was even whiter than it is now. My classmates didn't know what I was---"Are you a chink?"---and I couldn't swim in the ocean for what seemed like forever, to a 6-year-old who used to swim every day. I was, in other words, terrified, and ripped out of what I didn't know was ...

- This 48-page comics anthology was brought out by SLG Publishing in July. I have a 4-page story in it. Check it out, however, if you are a sensitive reader, some of the stories might upset you.

- I finished 2 chapters since I last blogged here, chapters 8 and 9. I have completed 8 chapters, and 7 remain to be drawn, so I've passed a halfway mark. 58 pages have been drawn, and probably about that many remain. The last three chapters have not been written yet, but will be between 6-10 pages each. Here's a list of the chapters, with a star next to those ones I have not yet drawn: Chapter 1: ...

- [First of all, I’m really excited about the new Red Room-wide blog topics we’ll be announcing each week! The first one is: “What was a misstep that you or your publisher made with publishing your first book--and how would you do things differently if you could?” If you want to be considered by our editors to have yours featured on the homepage the following week, be sure to tag your blog ...

- Had a very productive weekend and have now finished 6 pages of the 8-page 'Training Day' storyline. It was hot, but I got the new fan, so that provided some relief. Today the sunlight is bone-white and heavy on the skin, and it's only 8am. It's going to be a very hot one. Here is the half-finished version of page 1: I'd added some figures since the last time. This train is based on real ...
