  • Oprah vs. The Short Story

    November 10, 2009

    • In a now infamous interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper last week, Oprah Winfrey came out of the closet as “Not a Short Story Person.”  For the larger world, still high on the fumes of a Yankees win and the deflating balloon boy saga, this revelation was met with a collective shrug.  But among the literati, Oprah’s admission was the equivalent of an atom bomb exploding all over her ...

So I began writing a story that is so much different in reference to my normal action adventure world, but I think it's going ...

  • Alice Munro's 'Runaway' Rocks!

    October 12, 2009

    • Yesterday I read "Runaway," the first story in Alice Munro's collection of the same name, and I was blown away. I've read some of her previous work, but none of it affected me as much as this story. It's masterful, disturbing, satisfying, surprising, deep. I can't wait to read the rest of the collection.
