Flash NonFiction?

March 2, 2009, 4:34 pm

This past weekend I rediscovered my Flash Fiction Forward anthology, and remembered how much I love Flash Fiction.  At first, I thought it would be interesting to give fiction another shot, in the short 'flash' form, and then I thought, what about nonfiction?  Why shouldn't I be able to write about interesting occurences or relationships in my own life, in the style of a flash fiction or short short story?

So I wrote one little one, which I'll post here.  It ended up being fiction because I kind of veered off the course of truth, but it began as truth so I guess that's a start!

Great Idea

I did a little take on "flash nonfiction" with my students this year. We called it a micro memoir and they had to tell a complete story in 500 words. It was a great assignment.

Good to hear!

Well, I figured I wasn't the first to think of it!  Anyway I'm glad to hear it's not a ridiculous idea; I usually respond well to rquirements and structure, and ever since I graduated I've had to find my own.
