Local book launch, the first six weeks. On to Texas and Louisiana!

March 11, 2009, 11:00 am

Well, it's been an exciting six weeks, following the release of Accordion Dreams in late January.

It began on January 23, with the official book launch at Booksmith in San Francisco.    Then it was on to Clayton Books. After that, a big celebration at local Berkeley folk club, Ashkenaz (with help from Mrs. Dalloway's.)  That was quite an evening: a reception, a reading, and then my band Sauce Piquante played for the rest of the night. Then two more bookstore events:  University Press Books in Berkeley,  and a final bittersweet Mardi Gras reading at the soon-to-be-shuttered Stacey's in San Francisco.

I've had a great time: reading, meeting folks,  answering questions, and playing my accordion.  I've also become an even more die-hard fan of independent bookstores.

Now I'm getting set to do a  couple of out-of-state mini-tours.   This weekend, my fiddler husband and I head off to Dallas where I have been asked to present the book--and play!--at the National Accordion Association's annual convention.

In April,  we'll be spending ten days in the place where it all started: Louisiana.  The plan is to start out in New Orleans and end up in the Lafayette area, the heart of Acadiana, where  I've been invited to do a presentation for the LSU-Eunice performing arts series.  So I'm in the midst of setting up  bookstore events and whatever else my friends can figure out. So far, I have a couple of bookstore readings and a radio show scheduled.

Maybe this becomes old hat after awhile.  But so far, it's been enjoyable--even exhilarating at times.  It's still hard to believe.

Onward!
