Louisiana Book Festival coming up on October 17
I'm getting set to present "Accordion Dreams" at my first book festival. How fitting that it's in Louisiana.
While the rest of my fellow San Francisco Bay Area authors will be Litquake-ing, I'll be letting the good times roll in Baton Rouge. (Too bad I can't be in both places. I did get invited to participate in one Litquake event, but wouldn't you know it's the same weekend. Darn!)
On Saturday, October 17, I'll be giving a book-and-music presentation called "Accordion Dreams: My Outside-In Journey into Cajun and Creole Music. It's at 12:30 in the State Capital Building. (Senate Committe Room A--how's that for literary!). Herman Fuselier, noted Louisiana music journalist, will be moderating. My fiddler-husband Steve will be backing me up on fiddle. After, there's a book signing.
Lots of other great stuff going on. Cajun bands, a cooking tent. Some authors I'm dying to meet. A lot packed into a single day. Details on the festival website below.
So now I'm worrying about nonessential things. Packing. How long is the drive from the New Orleans airport to Baton Rouge? Will we make it to the Friday night "meet the authors" reception on time? What qualifies as "dressy casual" when you've been flying for 10 hours?

In what has to be perfect timing, "Accordion Dreams" just got a lovely review in a new online publication called the Cajun-Creole Music Spectator. It's the creation of Kristi Guillory, a young Louisiana accordionist, folklorist, and Grammy nominee. First time I've ever been called archetypal!
