First Cody's, now Carlin
Is this shaping up to be a shitty week or what? Both Cody's and George Carlin went to the mat for the First Amendment one way or another. Cody's was firebombed in 1989 for displaying frequent Redroom cover boy Salman Rushdie's "Satanic Verses." Carlin's "Seven Dirty Words" was at the center of the landmark FCC v. Pacifica Supreme Court case. Carlin was also arrested seven times for doing the bit on stage according to today's Chronicle obit.
FCC vs. Pacifica though -- it all goes back to Berkeley doesn't it?

Dale Estey says:
Have The Bastards Won?
It was a great shock to find (for me, just twenty minutes ago) that George Carlin had died.
His humour was authentic humour, through which he made his many political and cultural points.
