You Call Him Bigfoot, We Call Him Sasquatch
My punk wrestling memoir,Beer, Blood and Cornmeal, has a sasquatch on the cover -- a sasquatch being rolled up into a pin by a gay man. On Monday I tagged my book's Amazon.com page with the words "bigfoot" and "sasquatch" to capitalize on this country's hoax inspired Bigfoot-mania. Ever since then BBAC has been floating around the top 20 wrestling books according to Amazon sales rankings. The bigfoot revealed at that Palo Alto press conference last week may have been just a Halloween costume stuffed into a freezer with animal entrails slopped on top of it, but mention of the legendary creature still seems to have the power to help me move a book or ten. Dismissed as coincidence.
In other Amazon weirdness, Mary Roach's Bonk: The Curious Coupling of Science and Sex has joined books by such great literary minds as Dave "The Animal" Batistaand Larry Zybysko in that "Customers who bought this book also bought" section of the BBAC Amazon entry.

Roach, who also wrote the bestselling Stiff: The Curious Life of Human Cadavers is also joined by the Nature Boy Ric Flair Definitive Collection DVD and Ring of Hell: The Story of Chris Benoit and the Fall of the Pro Wrestling Industry. I always knew that my book's crossover appeal had the potential to create some bizarre combinations on Amazon.com, but it's still pretty strange seeing Mary Roach's scholarly work sandwiched in between Flair and Zybysko. She might have to show up to Litquake in a sequined robe.
