Done but not Finished
Today, my third book is in the computer. The trilogy: Five Years Lying, Mandie Faradin, and Hope's Herald begins in 2007 and ends in 2025. Since 2024, no one in North America heard the devastating diagnosis, "You have cancer." A work of fiction it is, but it doesn't have to be.
Fiction is a slippery slope. As I've talked with agents and publishers, they have asked me to classify the books as to genre. I've suffered more with this straight-jacket than any other aspect of creating a story. At first I called the trilogy "International Contemporary Fiction." I gagged every time I read it. To my relief, the astounding writer Margaret Atwood, allowed me to wiggle free with the genre -- Futuristic Fiction.
One other incredible artist practically wrote the books for me. Sergei Rachmaninov, whose first three symphonies were always playing in the background, shaped the themes and action in Mandie Faradin and Hope's Herald. As for Five Years Lying, the rock group called The Who said it all with the insightful lyrics they wrote in 1971 -- "We won't get fooled again."
Can you feel the universe's sympathetic vibration? If you can, you might be as crazy as I am.
