- Sometimes I write a poem about Hindu culture for my Brahmin husband. It feeds his vague nostalgia for festivals like this weekend's Ganesh Chaturthi. Members of a Hindu household worship a clay murti of the mathematician god Shri Ganesha, and then submerge it at an immersion site. Neighborhoods compete with each other in building the biggest murti, and there are pujas and other rituals. A sweet ...

- This article, excerpted from http://www.rediff.com/news/1999/aug/18us2.htm ,reminds me of the first time I met my husband's nephews--one called himself Given Name Surname, while his brother used the more traditional Surname, Given name. "Last name first, First name last, Middle initial," said the inspector. "What seems to be the problem?" "Sir, I am having a little ...

- Today I was consumed with the idea that I needed a proper website for my sister's and my latest chapbook, Memento Mori. I thought it would be nice to showcase our several collaborations, but of course neither one of us wanted to pay for it. We tried out a couple of free web sites--the former FreeWebs, Wetpaint, and something called Squidoo. The ads bugged us. Then we stumbled on Microsoft ...

- It's called Memento Mori. Don't groan--it's not all that dark. It's got plenty of gorgeous color, in fact, provided by Janet Snell's intriquing oil paintings, including the one on the cover. - It means the messiness of the householder stage, and this week it was all around me. The publisher of my new book, Prisoner's Dilemma, folded. Back to square one? Think outside that box folks are always talking about, I told myself. So I bought an ISBN (Congratulations! You're a publisher! the email said) and hoisted the book up on Lulu, at http://www.lulu.com/content/7186565. The dust has a ...

- I've tried two e-publishing platforms to date: Issuu and BookBuzzr. Bookbuzzr allows for information and links right on the widget, but it's still in Beta. When I checked this morning, my links did not work.Issuu works. It's a bit slippery to control, but that's probably just me, as they say in the workshops. You can keep your project private while you experiment. This is one I did yesterday. I'm ...
