Poetry with Robert Sward, Roy Mash and The Marin Poetry Center
I went to a poetry reading last week with a number of excellent poets. My friend Robert Sward was reading from his upcoming book of dog poems. One of his first published poems was "Uncle Dog"--which is a classic. These are in the voices of various dogs and the people who"own" them--funny, wise, sexy, sad. It will be a great collection. Roy Mash who helps to organize the Marin Poetry Center's Summer Traveling show read marvelous poems including movie icons of my childhood--The Mummy, The Incredible Shrinking Man, Fred Astaire. I really was taken back to a childhood when the Saturday movies taught me how life was going to work. The poems were funny and moving at the same time. I get my turn to read as part of the Traveling show on Sept 8, 730 pm at Rebound Books in San Rafael on Fourth St. Sept 15th I travel to far-off Modesto to The Barkin' Dog Grill for a reading at 630 pm.
