To edit or not to edit -- that is the questionable!
I just took on a new editing job, which isn't surprising because I have a writing and editing service called, you guessed it, www.timesolvers.com. I started it in 1991 and have sure turned out a lot of copy over the years, but recently I've been winding down and now only accept projects that I find fascinating.
Can I help it if I find a lot of things fascinating? Anyway, here I was on the brink of retirement and didn't fall into the abyss of doing nothing. Well, I wouldn't have done nothing even if I did fall of the cliff ... I already have some speaking engagements about my book "Cryo Kid - Drawing a New Map" (www.cryokid.com) lined up for September (incidentally if you know of a group interested in fertility, women's, family, or intergenerational situations that would like to book me as a speaker, please contact me. The email address is on my website.) You can even preview one of my lectures by clicking on a link. (That's enough promotion for now.)
Apart from spending a lot of time with my family, I also keep busy teaching a playreading class (www.vbs.org), sit on a theatre Board (www.wcjt.org), participate in an art group that visits different galleries every week, volunteer here and there, and get my exercise regularly with acquafit classes at a gorgeous SoCal pool, and help my daughter with her dog sitting/walking/boarding business (www.poochbuddies.com). But although I'm getting a bit lazy about promoting "Cryo Kid" myself (need someone else to do it for me), I was thinking of getting started on my next book. That's what a writer is supposed to do. Write books. While thinking can eventually turn out to be a very productive activity, you actually have to sit down and WRITE!!!
So why did I have to get fascinated by someone else's creative output just now? Oh well, ho hum, I'll just edit another book. The money will help the bank account out (I suppose that's why I got fascinated so quickly). Don't know if you're supposed to get so honest on a blog, but there it is.) If you're a professional writer, you're a professional writer, a hired pen (if you want to get technical, a hired computerist, I suppose).
Even if I can't get started until 2009 on MY new book, I'll still keep writing this blog, though. That is NOT in question. And the book I'm editing is going to be top drawer -- I'm an old pro.

Ever new horizons
The great thing about writing, Corinne, is that you don't have to retire. As long as you have your mental faculties, you have a passport to exciting adventures. None of that 'shock to the system' of new rhythms and routines for the author! It's sad and also startling how many people who have great plans for their mellow years, die within a year or two of ending their working careers. Keeping your foot on the pedal is where it's at. Brain exercise is still the best prescription for healthy longevity, although we dog lovers know we can't get away without the other sort.
So high days and Bank holidays find us doing our word stints. The only way to take a real vacation is to upsticks and leave. ...But not without an Asus eeepc!

Unretiree
You bet! Loved your comment, Rosy. Today I'm baby sitting, not only for one of my grandchildren but for two gorgeous white Samoyeds and my own loving black scruffy dog. Tonight we have two guests from Brazil joining us. Now for a little brain exercise on the computer!
