Random Thought
Words often strike me a little differently. Here's today's example. I walked out of a coffee shop and headed for my car. Parked near me was a car with what I'd thought was an obsolete sign in the window. It read: Baby on Board. I thought people stopped using those long ago, that they'd gone out of fashion. Or maybe I haven't been paying attention.
It reminded me of how utterly absurd and offensive I found that sign. Baby on Board. Do they think I'm not a careful enough driver? Worse: do they think I only care about my driving if a baby is in their car. Worse yet: do they only care about cars in which babies are passengers?
What about "Elderly on Board" or "Middle-aged Person on Board"? Don't they count? Or is the rest of the population expendible and only babies have any meaning?
And perhaps I was just hoping those stupid signs had become obsolete.

Darlene,
Babies are squishy, little things, so parents feel somewhat better protected, having the stickers on their windows. It's a talisman and maybe a sense of pride??
And if you decided you will print up some "Elderly on Board," I'd buy one and put it on my car window. Or "Cat on Board," "Dog on Board," I think you'd sell out in a jiff. Hey, let's do it and make a fortune so we can quit writing ;)

I Love It!
You're on, Belle! Great idea! With your artistry and what is obviously our shared warped sense of humor, you're right - we'd make a fortune! LOL I suspect we'll never stop writing but making lots of money sounds like a really good idea. ;-)

Well....
If it's any consolation.....we all come into this world and leave it the same way....no teeth, no hair, and in need of diapers. :)

Bored with Baby on Board
<>Heck, I would pay attention if the sign said "Cat on Board" or "Dog on Board".
<>The other sticker that is yesterdays news is the one that proclaims that someone's kid is an honor student at such and such school. I think I would be more impressed if I saw a bumper sticker that announced that their dog had just graduated with honors from a non-aversive dog training academy.

Bumper stickers
Oh, you've just touched a nerve! One of the local middle schools has produced bumper stickers saying that My (name of school) Child Wrote a Best Seller. I've alternately contemplating stopping the parent or calling the school's principal and giving them a "reality check" about best sellers! ;-)

Honor Student
I like the one that reads "My honor student could beat up your honor student."

Non-aversive dog academy grad
I agree - super idea! Anyone know where I can get them printed up really cheap?
Darlene Arden says:
Selling Bumper Stickers...
Hmmm. I'll bet we could do that and sell them at dog shows or give one as a "bonus" with every book purchased. LOL

I still think the best one
I still think the best one I've ever seen is: BLIND DRIVER ON BOARD.

Another favorite bumper sticker of mine: Visualize using your turn signals!

All of the Bumper Stickers are great!
I'm surprised to see the response to this blog entry. And really happy. :-) I wonder how many more Red Room members will find this and post their favorites?!

alternatives....
I thought Baby on Board was a warning to the driver behind...expect erratic driving, lack of signals, because this driver is just not concentrating...
Did you ever see - if you can read this, thank a teacher? No.....thank my mother, she taught me to read!
