Whither Thou Goest, Book Proposal?
I'm playing with some book proposals. Okay, I've really been working in earnest but "playing" seems like a better term for things that may never see the light of day. I'm not sure if this is just the usual insecurity between books or if it's the market. One of the books, I might add, has nothing to do with animals. That shouldn't be surprising for anyone who knows me well and knows that I'm a true eclectic and have written on a variety of topics in the past.
I sort of burned out on celebrity profiles. It happened right around the time that the publicists decided that they were more important than their clients or at least as important. I beg to differ but who am I to say? I miss the old days of celebrity profiles and real publicists. They knew the business, they knew how to make things happen. And their egos did not outshine the stars. (Any pun intended.)
I stopped travel writing when my mother became so ill that she needed someone around full-time. I determined that that someone was me. Something had to give and it was the travel writing. I have no regrets about that decision. I'd like to think that I have my priorities straight.
I wrote about women's issues, health and once tried my hand at interviewing a politician. He was probably the nicest of pols but I ran for my life.
I see people with multiple book contracts but I think they're mainly fiction authors and I just can't make up stuff. Romance and thrillers seem to be the genres of preference today but that's just my personal impression. Nope, not going to happen. I love to read fiction but I doubt that I can write it. I'm a non-fiction woman all the way. That's how I live my life, in the reality of here and now. I find the most satisfaction when I can pass along what I hope is helpful information to others.
Where does this leave me? Where does this leave my book proposals? I don't know. I'm still playing with them. And wondering, in this economy, if the next words I'll say are, "So, do you want fries with that?"

Decent proposal
Here are three suggestions which I've chewed over with my bony fido friend during our mid-morning endurance test of coffee and waffles:
Hope this will at least set you thinking on productive lines about using your own skills and experiences.
Jack is always available for consultation. His rate is two Jumbones per hour.

Thank You!
Rosy, thank you so much! Great to get the brain moving and have some additional input from you and Jack.
Please tell Jack that I find his rate quite reasonable and I send him big hugs and kisses along with my thanks. :-)
Warmly,
Darlene
