1988 was a very good year.  I spent the summer anchored alone in Georgetown, Bahamas aboard Lady Ace, a 67 foot ketch rigged sailboat, surviving the hurricane season.  Every morning when Stocking Cap was not on island, I gave the weather report and international news over Channel 10 on the VHF to benefit the smaller vessels without the benefit of Weatherfax or single sideband.  I met many wonderful sailors and the crew living aboard blue water sailing vessels and traveling the Bahamas Banks and the Atlantic, local or on to South America.  It was one of the best times of my life.

These days, life is a little tamer though I traveled many miles since the live aboard sailing days.  Other yachts of that same time would remember Lady Ace or "The Voice."  I taught school in Georgetown and had many local friends there as well.  My grade 4 students are adults now, living their own lives, chasing their own dreams.

I can't help but wonder about the friends from those days.  Are they still sailing?  Did they make it around the world or across the Atlantic?  Did they give it up and settle for a motorhome?  The blue water sailing community was a lifestyle unto itself, independent people from all walks of life with the common thread - the next port in a storm.  I lived my dream for three years and then life changed drastically, though I continued to travel.  Perhaps a former sailing friend will find me ... many were authors and artists.
