Last month my partner and I were legally married. With ten years and three kids behind us, I suppose it's better late than never. Now he’s my husband. Wow. You know, you never really understand anything until you’ve experienced it. I’m just starting to understand why being married matters so much to so many people. It matters to us: We have a new commitment; our family is no longer suspect under California law; and our children are very, very happy. Will we still be legally married tomorrow after the election? I don’t know, but I hope so. The kids do too.
