From Atlanta:

One of the joys of a book tour is seeing old friends along the way. In Atlanta -- which is always home to me -- I met more than a few. Then again, I almost didn't make it to Atlanta. Thunderstorms forced my plane from Toronto to divert to Charlotte. That meant the cancellation of my book talk at The Carter Center, breaking my heart. (Even worse, Air Canada wouldn't let us off the plane in Charlotte and made us return to Toronto. That's another story.)

I caught a 6 a.m. flight back to Atlanta. I taped "Good Day, Atlanta" on morning TV, then sat down with Valerie Jackson for a local NPR interview. She's a smart, insightful interviewer. I've always liked NPR interviews best: without exception, NPR interviewers are well prepared, and the NPR format allows an author to breathe and to tell stories with detail and color and pacing. That's a joy.

One revealing moment: at a book talk at the Duplicate Bridge Association of Atlanta, I asked, "How many of you have witnessed husband-wife tension at the bridge table?"

There were about 50 people in the room. I think 47 raised a hand.
