Happy Birthday, New Deal!

To commemorate the 75th anniversary of the New Deal, UC Berkeley has set up  a wonderful website to showcase the brilliant experiment that was the New Deal.*

They've limited their scope to work projects in California, but no matter where you live, I'm sure all of you have seen New Deal structures whenever you venture into public space.  Under the auspices of various federal agencies, our grandmothers and grandfathers built schools, hospitals, parks, roads, sewers, airports, amphitheaters, bridges, golf courses, aqueducts, power stations, city halls, art works, and a lot more.  Click on the green New Deal Projects box to see an interactive map of the sites. Take a look!  Contribute a photo!

* Know that once this country, devastated by poverty, unemployment, and bank failures, was governed by an administration that chose, as FDR put it, "... the path of social justice, the path of faith, the path of hope and the path of love toward our fellow men.”  FDR's solution seems simple:  He offered work to anyone, at a fair wage, to build America.
