"To Paint Is To Love Again"

The title of this entry comes from author Henry Miller - a line of his that rings so true for me. Never one to refuse a (virtually) receptive audience, and with heartfelt thanks for your lovely comments I will post this smaller canvas ( "Dogen" - oil on canvas - 16 in. x 20 in.) which currently hangs above my writing desk.

You bring out the darker side of me

Love this. I think your paintings bring out the darker side of my mind. They strike me as complex Rorschach tests. And also underline the power of words since, after reading the title of your post, and looking at this picture, I immediately see a bird's eye view of a single body lying in a bed in a room that only fits the bed. Or a grave perhaps - the surround looks like damp clay.

Hmmm... Herr Doktor Guthrie, what do you think it means?

I love that title. I am afraid I've never cared for Miller EXCEPT for his writing on paint and painting. I have the book by that same title, published by Chronicle. He writes exquisitely about how he tries to catch the morning light as if first sweeps across the previous nights work. When he writes about the experience of painting, he is absolutely honest, not cartwheeling, and shooting off firecrackers.

Miller . . . I wonder if it's a guy thing. My former beau was entirely crazy in love with Miller's work. I've read Cancer, Capricorn, Oranges of H.Bosch. I like the latter much better than others.

If you have time, will your write about your feelings for Miller, please?
