Red Room Where the Writers Are

DARKNESS AND LIGHT

So many people talk about their darkness

And how it helps them see

The essence of themselves

But I disagree

Because what we are really afraid of

Is our light.

In our darkness we can dig out all the bad stuff

Giving us free reign to flagellate ourselves

When the darkness we see

Is the same as others’ darkness

But our light…our light,

That is our true essence

And we would rather hide in the darkness

Than let our light shine

In all those dark places

Turning the monsters

Into piles of dirty clothes

Or a pair of shoes

Afraid we will be as ordinary

AS those things the light shines on

Afraid of our own power

Afraid of our own strength

Afraid of being able to control our own destiny,

For with that comes responsibility.
