My answer to the age old question....Why I write?
I just joined RedRoom, and I thought that answering this question will give people a better understanding of who I am.
Why I write?
I write to release all of my pent up creativity. I write to get rid of all my pent up emotions. I write to tell a story, as simple as that sounds, its true.
Everyone has a story to tell, and a lot of people say in passing interest that they are going to write a novel about their life someday. I write to tell the story of my dreams and fantasies, my life is so mind numbing plain that if I wrote about it I would do little better than invent an immediate sleep aid for those that struggle with insomnia. I suppose that would be one way to contribute to society - but, I'm not sure I want to go down in the history books as the one that cured insomnia.
I have been labelled a dreamer, and so I put that to good use. I like to write stories that more times than not stem from my bizzare dreams. I even keep a notebook by my bed for those horrifying nightmares that would really make an awesome horror novel that'll make the reader's hair curl. Sometimes its the sickeningly sweet romantic encounter with a guy that would make even the sternest woman sweat it. I just jot down a few scribbles, some that may not even be cognant in the morning. I had some once that looked peculiarly like some crazy newly invented language, but there are always a couple of words that spark my memory and I can go back and fill in the gaps.
I want my stories to leave readers feeling satisfied and hungry at the same time. But most importantly I want them to want to come back and read my stuff again.
So why do I write?
I write to relieve personal tension and creativity, to tell a story on my terms, and finally to make readers happy and content. The fact of it all is, as a writer you should realize that a publisher or an editor isn't who signs your check...its the readers. Write for readers...and no one else. Everyone else can be viewed as a bonus for the writer. :)
