where the writers are

So that's where all the geniuses are...and why weren't we invited??

Here is a link to a really amusing and original short story I just read on Guernica, an online literary and cultural magazine you may not have heard of: http://tinyurl.com/r2xja9.

The story, by Elizabeth Crane, who has written several collections of short stories, is about a group of "geniuses" who get together to validate each other each week. No gay men, although they do know of one gay male genius, and no women, although they "are not saying there are no lady geniuses..." the men at the meeting simply don't know any. They reminesce about miserable childhoods, failed marriages to supermodels, envying "dumb" people, and more.

After reading it, I decided to invite the author to join Red Room. By the way, please feel free to invite any authors you come across to join Red Room! The more original voices you stumble across and invite to join us here, the better.

Guernica also does something fun at the end of each short story: They ask the author to note and link to an author that she or he recommends. I love that idea. We need more ways to do that on Red Room, too.

Do you think we should do a short weekly fiction piece on the Red Room homepage/magazine each week? Let us know. Thanks!

Silly CEO...

...check the roster. ;-) Elizabeth Crane is on Red Room.

(I love "...they 'are not saying there are no lady geniuses...'" So glad to hear that!)

The Genius Meetings

Thank you for referencing that story. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. The line "We meet to discuss whether or not to donate sperm," was genius. If only instead of just anybody!!!

The Science of Love

I love the idea that geniuses have dysfunctional love lives. It makes them accessible to me.

I wonder how someone says with a straight face, "Well, see you later. I'm off to my genius meeting."
