Girls Inc. is a non-profit organization that provides year-round academic enrichment and skill building programs, as well as counseling services to the participants and their families.  This organization has adopted a youth-based mentoring approach by incorporating and focusing on girls’ ideas and perspectives. 

 In 2007, Girls Inc. of Alameda County was recognized for its commitment to the community when it received the Charities Seal of Excellence Award for the second year in a row.

At this year’s annual luncheon in April 2009, honorees were San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris; Speaker of the California State Assembly Karen Bass; and 1992 Olympic Gold Medalist  Kristi Yamaguchi.
