We're Honored...

One of the grand things about working at Red Room is that I get to share good news about many of our authors. This week I am so happy to announce that many of our authors and members are winning prizes or being nominated for their wonderful writing!

Sandra Nathan

Sandy Nathan won the 2009 Nautilus Silver Award for her fantasy novel Numenon, and is now in the running for a Gold Medal. According to their website, the Nautilus Awardswere established to “change the world, one book at a time,” and to promote growth in people’s lives.

G. Willow Wilson

 

G. Willow Wilson is nominated for the Will Eisner Awardfor Best New Series for her new graphic novel Air. Her artist M.K. Perker is nominated as well. The Eisner awards are given for excellence in comic and graphic art in culture today. 

  

 Jennifer Hummer

 

 

Jennifer Gooch Hummer (left) and Talia Carner (right) were both semi-finalists for the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Awards. Jennifer for her novel Apron 11, Talia for her novel Jerusalem Talia CarnerMaiden. The Amazon Breakthrough Novel awardswere created by Amazon, Create Space, and Penguin to promote up-and-coming authors’ writing.

 

 

Simon Haynes

 

 

Simon Haynes is a finalist for the 2009 Ditmar Awards for his book Hal Spacejock: No Free Lunch. The Ditmar Awards are given to the best of science fiction, fantasy, and horror written by Australian authors. Simon also won the WA Science Fiction Foundation award for Best Fantasy novel of 2008. 

 Gina Collia-Suzuki

 

Gina Collia-Suzuki's book trailer for her novel, The Wonderful Demise of Benjamin Arnold Guppy, has been nominated for The New Covey Trailer Award,celebrating the excellence of book trailers.

 

Jennifer McLagan

 

 

 

Jennifer McLagan won the International Association of Culinary Professionals Cookbook Award for Single Subject for her book Fat: An Appreciation of a Misunderstood Ingredient.  The awards were created to rejoice in the best of cookbooks and food media.

 

Christopher Meeks, Midge Raymond, and Tania Hershman have been long-listed for the Frank O’Connor International Short Story Award:Chris for his short-story collection Months and Seasons, Midge for her collection Forgetting English, and Tania for her collection The White Road and Other Stories. The Frank O’Connor International Short Story Award honors the best of short story collections published in the past year.  They are nominated along with other celebrated authors such as Mary Gatskill, Kazuo Ishiguro, and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.

 Winners and runners-up at this year's San Francisco Book Festivalwere announced on May 3rd.

Winners include Jonathan Keats for his short-story collection that reimagines Jewish folklore, The Book of the Unknown: Tales of the Thirty-Six and Geri Spieler, whose  biography/memoir of Sara Jane Moore, Taking Aim at the President: The Remarkable Story of the Woman Who Shot at Gerald Ford, won in the Wild Card category. Stacy Nyikos and A. Colin Wright were among those getting Honorable Mentions the Fair. Stacy's book Dragon Wishes was named in the Teenage category, while Colin's novel Sardinian Silver was recognized in General Fiction.
