Saving the Internet

February 13, 2008

Writers, FYI: Free internet access is at risk!

Last night U.S. Representatives Ed Markey (D-Mass.) and Chip Pickering (R-Miss.) introduced a bill that would stop relentless corporate attempts to set up roadblocks on the information superhighway.

It guarantees Net Neutrality by restoring it in the foundation of communications law. This bold move promises that the public -- not phone and cable companies -- will control the fate of the Internet.

The legislation also calls for a nationwide series of public hearings before anyone in Washington hands these gatekeepers and their lobbyists more power. (Read more about the bill here).

For writers, the internet is one of the most important tools at our disposal. Considering that our work is done primarily on spec, keeping this tool free is imperative to our creative process--not to mention our pocketbooks. Please sign the petition on the site, and as others to do it, too.

Very important,

Josie
