Early writing by Sam Barry
Early writing by Sam Barry

Perhaps you’ve heard...my newly-minted, minty-fresh husband Sam Barry has just published a book: HOW TO PLAY THE HARMONICA: AND OTHER LIFE LESSONS. Using the various qualities needed to be a good harmonica player (listening, taking turns, improvisation) and a willingness to try new things (letting go, having fun, allowing for mistakes, jumping in the deep end) as guidelines for loosening up and becoming more playful in life, Sam takes you, the reader, on an entertaining journey into his brain. It's quite a ride.

I don’t know about your household, but in ours nothing gets published without being read aloud. Since we don’t have a dog, we tend to read our work to each other. Not only that, Sam is my first reader and copyeditor, and I am his. So of course I got more than a few looks at his manuscript (along with numerous chances to "offer" my two cents about content) during the writing and editing process. And I think the book turned out great.

Here’s an added, unexpected bonus: I can now play “Oh, Susannah!” on the harmonica. I'm not sure how; it just sort of happened. So we have to rethink the role Sam is going to play around here, since I have clearly taken over on the harmonica front. While we're figuring that out, take a look at Sam's book. Seriously--you'll love it. But don't take my word--check out this somewhat more objective BookPage [insert link http://www.bookpage.com/books-10012146-How+To+Play+Harmonica] review.

Maybe you'll wake up one day and find you can play "Oh, Susannah!" too. We can start a band...

That Picture of Me

Where the heck did you get that picture of me, Kathi? I don't think I even knew how to play the harmonica yet.

Playing the harmonica

Hi Kathi and Sam,

Some day i hope to hear Sam play the harmonica. My dad played it so good.

I will have to check out Sam Barry's book. I know you all have a blast as the authors play.

Take care and God bless,
Ramonda Brady
