If they can take a man to the moon ...

July 24, 2008, 5:22 pm

Remember when astronauts used to be cool?

I mean, they still are. But when I was four, the moon landing happened, and even before that everything was compared to "rocket science."

We can now insert "if they can clone a sheep ... " but I still prefer the moon landing. More optimistic, somehow, and easier on the sheep.

So my point is this: if they can <insert science-fictiony technological breakthrough here>, why can't my book be distributed in a much easier fashion?

You see, July 18th was my "virtual" release. My actual release--when books will be available and in people's hands--is sometime between now and a couple of weeks from now. This is one of the vagaries of small publishing ... from the press to the distributors to the booksellers and libraries can be an arduous process.

My launch party and debut reading/signing and other events in August are taken care of, because those were direct from Five Star orders. If you order directly, you get the book faster.

You also don't get a hefty Amazon discount, and in this economy, that's not much of a choice.

And so I wait ... happy that people want to read Nox Dormienda, unhappy that they can't read it when they expect to.

But there's another saying: all good things come to those who wait. :) I hope it's true in this case.

Before I sign off, one big thank you and shout out to Red Room, for highlighting Nox Dormienda and Roman Noir on the home page! I'm both honored and humbled. This is a fantastic community, and I'm proud to be a part of it!

Now ... back to contemplating the moon. ;)
