#AmazonFail
Amazon.com
Barnes & Noble
Powell's Books
If you spend much time on the internet, you already know this, and from more knowledgeable sources than this one. But just in case, my dear writers and readers, here's a thumbnail:
Amazon.com, in a stunning failure of wisdom, enacted a policy of "deranking" books with "adult" themes. The company sorted out tags indicating erotica or any gay/lesbian content, and removed sales rankings. It also removed such books from its bestseller lists. I can't begin to explain how they thought this would work, any more than I can explain how Google thought it could violate five million copyrights and no one would notice.
The response, in the new model of instant communication, has been a storm of Twitter exchanges symbolized by this keyword: #AmazonFail. I don't Tweet, myself, but this one was so huge, and so instantaneous (all happening on the Easter holiday) that news outlets had it picked up by evening of the same day. There's a huge outcry, and there should be.
Folks, they deranked Lady Chatterly's Lover. Puh-leez.

Awkwardly titled, but it should still make the dissent clear. : )

Thanks, Evie.
I've signed it. I'm still disturbed, and hoping for an explanation from Bezos.
