Romancing the Lie and the Enlightenment Guru
Let me give you a bit more background before I continue.
Power, money, position and celebrity do funny things to people and their good judgment. Both the holders of the aforementioned qualities and those with whom they interact. How else do you explain the misguided reasoning of many who say, “Roman Polanski didn't really rape and drug a thirteen year-old girl, I mean, maybe just a little. But not really.”
Let me be clear about Mr. Enlightened Editor's cache of influence. He is the top dog, chief decision maker, go-to-guy, and public face of one of the world's most up and coming publishers on the topic of spirituality, transformation and healing. He edits the books of not just an ordinary best-selling author, but one who has sold millions upon millions of books.
A former minister of a large church and an expert on the bible, Mr. E's social circle includes church leaders, well-respected scientists, business giants and celebrities.
I ask you, why wouldn't a little ol' single mom from Canada believe everything Mr. E is telling her?
Mr. E flew to Canada twice to meet with me and work on my book. It was a bit strange when he confessed he was falling in love with me through the hundreds of email exchanges, phone calls and the content of my manuscript. I was the woman he spent a lifetime searching for. The perfect writing partner, conscious soul, witty conversationalist.
And while he was flattering me with nauseating doses of dishonesty, he 'decided' my book was the perfect place for his earth shattering ideas about Christ Jesus. He long had an obsession with the Son of God, and could not think of a better place to publish his theories. Why, so many of the uneducated and unenlightened could benefit from his genius. Of course, he wanted me to quote and endorse him.
“But I don't hold your beliefs on the subject and this isn't even a book about religion.” I minor detail, he explained. Poor, poor, ignorant single mom. How could you possibly understand the complexities of the publishing business? Why, you're not the Editorial Director for God's sake. Or is that, “For Christ's sake?”
