where the writers are

Marilyn Kallet I'm a poet and children's book author, translator and essayist.

Here in Deep France

May 3, 2009, 11:07 am

The light is golden.  The wine is cheap and velvety (2007 Bordeaux, oak casked).  I'm using the office computer since wi fi isn't up yet.   Soon as it is, I'll post some photos.

I'm the only writer in residence until tomorrow, when two more fellows arrive here in Auvillar.  They are painters.  It will be nice to have other artists in the house.  Well, sort of.  I like having the country house to myself.  Who's a spoiled brat?

I'm savoring every moment.  Driving a leased Peugeot, eating local black olives, and loaves of fig bread with cheese. How much can one gain on a day?

Time to take a walk my friends, along the pilgrimage route of St. Jacques of Campostelle.

Marilyn, savour the light,

Marilyn, savour the light, the wine and the friendship. Mp

Marilyn Kallet says:

Thanks, Mary! Next summer...

Good to hear from you.  I hope you'll be able to come along next round.

All cheers, M

Rosy Cole

Rosy Cole says:

Lucky you, Marilyn!

I'm green with envy. But what about our new UK Poet Laureate?! That will give you something to celebrate!

Marilyn Kallet

Marilyn Kallet says:

Hey Rosy, come with me next summer!

Did Ruth Padel win?  I haven't heard yet--

Rosy Cole

Rosy Cole says:

Thanks. I just might!

Carol Ann Duffy's the new British Poet Laureate. No glass ceiling there, then!

Kunzang Drolma

Kunzang Drolma says:

Lovely to hear from you

I was wondering what the arrival was like, following the anxiety of departure. What a wonderful counterbalance, like the grains of sand settling on the vast ocean floor, after the storm has passed through. The subtle, peaceful movement of potential remains. Enjoy!

Marilyn Kallet

Marilyn Kallet says:

Arrival is sweet, balance, too-

And your words are always a balm--thank you!

Belle Yang

Belle Yang says:

And please tell me how the painters

manage to bring all their stuff?

I, too, am envious.

Marilyn Kallet

Marilyn Kallet says:

It looks like one of them shipped a bunch of stuff

The office is full of painterly boxes.

The other artists haven't arrived yet.

Will keep you posted. Come with me next summer!

Cheers, Marilyn
