Re-entry Looms: How to Keep Up One's Writing While Working Full Time?
Sunday morning I leave for Knoxville, for home. By Monday the students will be asking me to sign their petitions and so forth. The demands of academia will hit fast and hard.
But for now, I'm writing and editing the new poems. I'm working on the children's book and facing up to the suggestions for revision.
Today I'll leave the studio early for lunch with my friend Lisa Johnson, the librarian at Sweet Briar. The Sweet Briar library has been a godsend in terms of Darwin materials. And Lisa always orders my books for the shelves. She's one of my local heroes.
Saturday night I'll have dinner with Wayne and Robert from Amherst. Old friends are best. (And Robert will make his succulent crab cakes. This time I'll write down the recipe and send it out to you.)
My new friend here, Laura-the-fiction-writer-and-yoga-teacher says there's a special Hindu chant for transitions. I'll ask her to print it out for me. And I will try to compose one myself.
I would welcome advice from the rest of you wise writers about re-entry.
Cheers, Marilyn
